As a Muslim, this is no surprise. Since 9/11 the sentiment in this country has changed regarding civil rights vs. "safefty". Many act now as if the war on terrorism (which by the actions of airlines and others equates to a war on Islam)is reason enough to profile all Muslims and label them as a potential threat to safety.
